I was in search of hard drive rails that would fit my custom PC and hold my hard drive in place. Though they didn't have them (they don't seem to be available anywhere), the gentleman brainstormed different solutions and suggestions and presented an alternative solution using screws, which although the original intention couldn't work, I was able to use those screws in a different manner to secure my hard drive. So ultimately, problem solved! Great service.

Originally, I took my Macbook Air to a different business, and after they told me it wasn't fixable, Craig said he could handle it! When I brought it in, he opened the laptop directly in front of me, showed me the water damage that I hadn't seen on my own, and was extremely helpful/knowledgeable. I enjoyed listening to him tell me stories while he assessed my broken laptop, and in the end, he gave me an excellent deal! Having experience both in a computer repair shop and as a software developer, I can confidently say that The Eldest Geek is the most honest and fair computer repair shop you're likely to find in northern Virginia. If you're not a computer person and are looking for a shop that's going to use their knowledge to help you, and not cheat you, this is the place.

I recently had work done here on a Macbook Pro 15" Retina, through the repair several unexpected problems came up. Craig was easy to communicate with and provided consistent updates on the repair. With the issues that the computer had I would not have been surprised to have gotten a call informing me that the price would be doubling due to the amount of time that had been invested. Through my interactions with Craig and seeing his response to the problems I believe I got a better than normal view of how much integrity this shop is run with.

Don't be fooled by this business nestled in an antique store. The owner has saved my computer, hubby's laptop and even a phone. The office is closed on Tuesdays. If you don't mind allowing permission to access remotely, you can have your laptop analyzed while you are still at home. The employees are honest and diligent.

After several weeks of the screen on my laptop occasionally flickering when initially turning the computer on, the screen went completely black. The laptop would still power on but I was unable to see anything on the screen. After doing some trouble shooting I realized that I would need a professional to diagnose and fix the problem. I contacted a few local computer repair companies and Craig was the first person who had an available appointment. Craig spoke to me over the phone and provided some initial thoughts as to what might be causing the problem. He told me I could bring the laptop in and he would take a look and provide a free estimate of how much the repairs would cost. I spoke with Craig a few hours after dropping the computer off and he informed me that he had determined that the screen on the laptop needed to be replaced (approximate cost = $150.) He said he would check to see if he had a replacement screen in stock and could have the computer fixed and ready for pick up on Wednesday, if that would work for me. (I dropped the laptop off on Monday at 11 a.m. Craig’s company is closed on Tuesdays.) I explained that I was unavailable on Wednesday and, if possible, would really appreciate it if there was any way that the repair could be made ASAP so I could pick up the computer later on Monday. Craig said he would try to get it finished so I could pick up the computer later that day. Craig called at 4:30 on Monday – the same day I dropped off the computer – to let me know that the laptop screen had been replaced and the laptop was ready for pick up. Craig replaced the laptop screen and I am now able to fully use the laptop again. Very quick and affordable service with straightforward communication as to what to expect with regard to timing and price.

In case you're like me and find yourself wondering…hmmm…is this legit? A computer repair shop in the crowded corner of a dilapidated antique mall? Yes, it's legit. I've brought two separate computers here and had excellent service both times. Once to have fan installed in a Dell all-in-one computer; the other to (ultimately) have a new hard drive installed. Second time took a little longer than either of us expected. (It happens.) But, any time I called for a status update, I got an immediate response and full update. And, even though the job ended up being more extensive than originally thought, they stuck with their estimate. I have recommended this place to neighbors, and happily do so to Yelpers as well.

Craig and Alex are masters of computer repair. I've been using computers since the late 1970s, and these guys are the absolute real deal. In addition to their expertise, they are very friendly, and they make customers feel right at home in their shop.

You don't need any other company to fix your computer. I've dealt with them several times, ALWAYS with positive results. Their fees are MORE than reasonable and their work is of the HIGHEST possible standard-it doesn't get any better than that!

Somehow I completely messed up my Windows 7 operating system on my old Lenovo T430 Thinkpad. Even though I have many years of experience as a web developer, I had no clue how to fix this. I researched as much as I could, but clearly fixing operating systems on laptops is not my forte. Ihad actually bought a laptop from Craig back in October, which is lightning fast, and it was backed by Craig, so Iknew I was getting the real deal. Unfortunately, I haven't had a lot of time to play with, as I couldn't bring it with me to Mexico. For this laptop issue, Craig was able to perform a repair on the operating system and it took about 2 hours to complete. Craig and Alex have the most experience thanany other technician in Washington DC, and I wouldn't even think about bringing my computer to anyone else.

I am a small business owner and had some trouble with my main computer at work and I was going to miss payroll for my staff as well as not be able to fill a customer's order and Craig and his team saved the day! I am in home improvement and computers are my area of comfort. Craig took his time to help me understand what was happening and what he could do. His price was the best around and I am glad to have found them! I came to the shop and the staff put other things they had going on hold to help me and a few minutes later my computer was fixed! My wife spilled tea on her new top-of-the-line Retina Macbook, and it fried. Talking with geeks at Apple and Microcenter, the best they could offer was a "deal" on a new machine, and my $3,000 down the drain. Saturday at 6:30 PM I called Craig (the Chief Eldest Geek), not expecting much. He said, "bring it by and let's have a look". Hidden on the second floor of an antique shop (think of movies Wizard of Oz and Gremlins), elbowed between floor-to-ceiling stacks of computers, was the man himself. Craig dropped the bottom cover and showed me how the liquid had gotten deep into the chassis, under the logic board and power supply. Craig said he could fix it, "no doubt" and gave me an estimate, which although steep, was worth it to resurrect my wife's computer (and my wife). It took quite a bit of doing, and he had to replace a handful of logic board components, but sonovagun, Craig did get that machine back up. At home I found that the charging circuit still wasnt working right, and gave it back to Craig for more work at no extra charge (he considered it part of the first repair). This time he got it right; Craig promised that my Mac would be "100% as good as new", and this time it was. MEANWHILE… I had my old spare Macbook die on me ("kernel panic"), conveniently the day my Retina machine was ready for pickup. so I brought it with me. Craig's stepson Alex was holding the fort. Alex popped the cover off and within 30 seconds confirmed that the RAM card was bad. He found a good card in another machine of similar vintage in the pile, slid the good card into my machine and it was back up, with twice the RAM it had originally. I almost had to argue with Alex to take the money for the second repair, which was a very reasonable price. In case you have doubts, these guys are the real deal. Dont let the antique store put you off, these guys have the know-how, tools, and test equipment to do very complex component-level repairs that even Apple doesnt do. And BTW, young Alex has proven to be quite the geek himself! I FINALLY have somewhere to bring my Apple products for expert, old-fashioned REPAIR! Thanks, guys.

The Eldest Geek Guys are honest, reliable computer experts with excellent customer service that fixed both an HP laptop and an iPod Touch for me. Located on the 2nd floor of Mt Vernon Antique Center might sound unusual, but once you see their simple yet efficient set-up and get quoted an extremely reasonable price for service, you'll understand the value of low overhead costs.

For someone that has thrown money at cars and boats that were well past their prime, it was refreshing to get an honest and clear assessment of future use/value of my electronic devices from these guys and then decide whether I wanted them serviced. They answered all my questions and were very straightforward and honest about what options I was looking at with my devices. Both the HP laptop and the iPod Touch still had good use/viability and these guys put them both back to prime working order in less than 24 hours.

I wholeheartedly recommend these guys and will only use them in the future to fix my computers/phones/etc.

FYI: closed Tuesdays but open every other day including Saturdays and Sundays. Parking is ample on either side of the building and there is a convenient street behind the building to re-enter traffic safely so you don't have to try to make a left turn out onto the highway.

Don’t be fooled by his lack of a storefront. He is the real deal and you will feel lucky and glad you found him. After a liquid spill on my MacBook Pro 2012 model I went to MicroCenter � did not even consider the high priced Apple store. Microcenter wanted $70 just to check it out and the repair would take at least 3 to 5 days. Granted in the unibody Mac the keyboard is actually the bottom layer and is viewed as a “difficult repair.” (I am an electrical engineer and considered doing it myself)

Craig took the case off while I was waiting and diagnosed that it was just the keyboard, no liquid damage to logic boards. I left the laptop and shortly after I got home Craig called to say it was ready for pickup. I could have just had a long lunch and saved on travel time. The MacBook works great, but if there was a problem he guarantees his work. He replaced only what was needed so the material cost is low and his low overhead keeps costs at a relative bargain. In these days of mostly disappointing service Craig was one of the few good experiences I have had with service in a long time.

I’d done business with Craig remotely. I needed to pickup a laptop from him, and my 2011 iMac needed some updates. The laptop was ready when I got there. The memory upgrade was done VERY quickly. The system “slowness” was due to the fact that my internal hard drive had some problems. The drive was replaced very quickly. They installed Yosemite on it, and all I had to was use my Time Machine backup to restore my data. These guys know their stuff, they’ve been at it for a LONG time. They have parts there, so some repairs (as mine) can be done while you wait. They have comfortable chairs to sit in, and many interesting things (including all kinds of vintage computer gear) to look at while you wait.
